The Challenge:
The interior design of a farmhouse is always a wholesome experience. It has different levels of variations but the end prospect is fabulous. There are certain challenges attached to it. Let’s have a look at a few of them.
- Interior of the farmhouse should be revamped according to the modern theme
- The practicality of the place must be intact and functional such as the kitchen, living area, and the dining room
- The interior design should come out as cohesive and functional with a flow
- The furnishings should be high-quality and uber chic
- Addition of greens is a must whether in pots or small herbs, especially in the kitchen.
The Inspiration:
Once it was decided what theme to use for the transformation, the inspiration came easy. The farmhouse’s kitchen, dining area, and living room were to be designed according to the modern theme. Keeping The light and cozy atmosphere seamlessly flowing throughout the space. It was decided to get inspiration from a dark accented depth that will drastically transform the space while keeping the traditional elements of the farmhouse intact.
The inspiration was taken from different sources. It was decided to maintain the furniture clean and linear so that it can appear comfy and cozy.
The Mood Board:
The mood board was designed in such a way that the whole farmhouse appeared to be cohesive and functional but in reality, all the rooms were functional and separate on their own. The flow of airy and natural navigation made it easy to appear in harmony.
The style was decided to be executed in a phenomenal way. The contemporary furnishings were kept modern while the other ornate pieces of the farmhouse were placed in a minimalistic way. The decorative items popped out against the white backdrop of the walls.
The kitchen and the dining area were decided to be kept transitional. Have a look.
Transitional Kitchen and Dining Area of a Modern Farmhouse:
The modern farmhouse’s kitchen and dining area are usually situated at the back of the main concept room. The notable features of the rooms were kept transitional as well such as light-shaded wooden shelves, wall sconces, and semi-flush lights, and even the kitchen cupboards were decided to have an old meets new vibe. This actually enhanced the vibes of the farmhouse.
A small breakfast bar would complement the kitchen area perfectly. The upper tier can be used for informal meals whereas later on the marble island can be perfectly used for serving snacks and meals. The lower tier world is a meal preparation counter.
This looked very appealing and classy. The kitchen of the farmhouse comprises functional items as well as shelves that had many decorative items installed in them.
A subtle herringbone wall would complement the space so much, increasing the visual appeal of the kitchen and dining area on the whole.
The Living Room:
The living room is just adjacent to the kitchen and dining area. Quite often, the extended cabinets of the kitchen are in the living room. Sometimes these extra cabinets work as a home bar, perfect to entertain guests or just to relax once back from work.
To make the living room appear more welcoming, the addition of a nature-inspired art piece in one corner of the living room would make it appear truly welcoming and serene.
It is very important that the living room appears to be cozy. For this, you need to be very selective about the furniture. add some plush rugs to add the coziness quotient in the living room. You can pair it up with a spacious coffee table or huge armchairs right next to the fireplace or an LED television.
If there are windows, there can be nothing more perfect to complement the farmhouse than the natural light. But if there are no windows, then you need to come up with a solution for a well-lit living area. You need to use artificial lighting sources like a chandelier or other sources. Keep the color scheme of the room neutral or white so that the light can be well reflected in all the nooks and corners of the living room.
Remember, farmhouses are supposed to be inviting and bright, so light needs to be on point!
We thought of listing down some of the must-have essentials for a modern farmhouse. Have a look and see if these things match your desired interior and give that perfect modern vibe or not.
